All the films in this program are "Westerns"–but what does that word really mean? Well, here we have films which explore the past, present, and future of one of the first major Hollywood genres. There’s an uproarious tribute to Buster Keaton; a gripping and violent chronicle of the struggle that ensues when devotion to the land meets eminent domain; a goofy and boozy trip to the drunk tanks and hippie communes of 1970s Montana; and even a glimpse of a post-apocalyptic American West. The four films included here prove that one thing is certain: in 2026, the Western is in safe hands.

The Blistering Blundering West
Dir. Quinton Buxton

In this loving tribute to the films of Buster Keaton, a bumbling, lovestruck cowboy stumbles through the western frontier, overcoming a series of comical obstacles in the hopes of making it on time for a date with the potential love of his life.

Last Stand at Butte City
Dir. Natalie Schwan

In 1880 Montana, a reclusive rancher is given 30 days to abandon her homestead when the railroad claims her land, forcing her to confront the trauma that has bound her to it for decades.

Montana Lucky
Dir. Adam Smith

Montana, 1972. Full-time lover, part-time cowboy, small-time thief - Lucky Corrigan dreams of becoming a dime-novel outlaw. But after rustling cattle from a peaceful hippy commune, he realizes he may have underestimated their commitment to the revolution.

Until Your Last Breath
Dir. Jozlyn Baumann

In a post-apocalyptic Montana where the dead hunt the living, a young survivor's search for independence sets in motion a tragedy he and his sister cannot escape.
