Montana Repertory Theatre
Montana Repertory Theatre hosts a special screening of Fancy Dance at The Roxy Theater on Tuesday, February 10, in honor of the world premiere of Can't Drink Salt Water, by Missoula-based Indigenous playwright Kendra Mylnechuk Potter (Lummi Nation). After the screening, Kendra will discuss the play's themes, its influence on her work, and her upcoming premiere.

FANCY DANCE
Since her sister’s disappearance, Jax (Lily Gladstone) has cared for her niece Roki (Isabel Deroy-Olson) by scraping by on the Seneca-Cayuga reservation in Oklahoma. Every spare minute goes into finding her missing sister while also helping Roki prepare for an upcoming powwow. At the risk of Jax losing custody to Roki’s grandfather, Frank (Shea Whigham), the pair hit the road and scour the backcountry to track down Roki’s mother in time for the powwow. What begins as a search gradually turns into a far deeper investigation into the complexities and contradictions of Indigenous women moving through a colonized world while at the mercy of a failed justice system.

CAN'T DRINK SALT WATER
Can't Drink Salt Water runs February 14-22 in the Montana Theatre, UM Campus. This gripping new play weaves together Native identity, maternal grief, contemporary religious faith, humor, and a call to action. Presented by Montana Repertory Theatre, in partnership with UM School of Theatre and Dance, Can’t Drink Salt Water is supported by a transformative grant from The Roy Cockrum Foundation, allowing for a large-scale production full of theatrical magic and special effects.
