At Your Cervix
At Your Cervix is an award-winning documentary film that breaks the silence on how medical students learn to perform pelvic exams in the U.S. The film exposes how students are often taught on unconscious patients without their knowledge or consent. At the same time, it offers an empowering solution that could revolutionize how pelvic exams are performed in medical schools and clinics across the country, in which the patient is the teacher.

At Your Cervix depicts the reality of a practice that is hard to prove because it is done behind closed doors on unconscious patients. Despite the difficulty in finding patient testimonials, several people share their stories of gynecological violation, some experiencing PTSD from previous sexual assaults. Their stories are tender and humanize an issue that often lacks the testimony of real people who have been hurt.

Experts we feature in the film attest to the widespread prevalence of the use of anesthetized patients without consent. Many medical professionals have said that the only way to change this engrained practice is with pressure from the outside–otherwise, medicine would have done it themselves already. While many professional medical and OB/GYN organizations have claimed they do not condone the use of anesthetized patients for educational exams, they have done little to change it and throughout the film we unravel a paper trail of ineffectual statements by these organizations.

Yet there is hope, as the number of state laws banning this practice is increasing with dramatic speed: doubling from seven to fifteen in 2019 - 2021 alone. At Your Cervix is not only a jaw-dropping, informative film, it is an advocacy tool for new legislation, and a training tool for educational and medical institutions.
