With Special Guest Donna Stageman Roberts!
A League of Their Own
La Boca!
As America's stock of athletic young men is depleted during World War II, a professional all-female baseball league springs up in the Midwest, funded by publicity-hungry candy maker Walter Harvey (Garry Marshall). Competitive sisters Dottie Hinson (Geena Davis) and Kit Keller (Lori Petty) spar with each other, scout Ernie Capadino (Jon Lovitz) and grumpy has-been coach Jimmy Dugan (Tom Hanks) on their way to fame. Madonna and Rosie O'Donnell co-star as two of the sisters' teammates.
With special guest, former professional baseball player Donna Stagement Roberts!
In 1946, as a 20-year old girl living in Billings, Donna read an article in Redbook Magazine about upcoming tryouts for the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL). Donna was one of 500 women invited to spring try-outs. She was sent a rail ticket and was soon on her way to Pascagoula, Mississippi. Donna earned herself a slot as a shortstop and in the outfield, and also coached first-base on the Peoria Redwings in their inaugural season. Donna’s baseball glove and bat are currently on loan to the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Donna Stageman Roberts was born January 1, 1926 in Nebraska and moved to Billings, MT as a young child. Donna currently resides in Helena, MT. After the screening, Donna will be signing autographs and hosting a discussion about her time with the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League.
