Two adolescent Navajo cousins from different worlds bond during a summer herding sheep on their grandmother's ranch in Arizona while learning more about their family's past and themselves.


Screening will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by Dr. Annie Belcourt, PhD. Panelists include Jason Begay, Tara Weaselhead-Running Crane, and O’Maste-Win Foster.


Annie Belcourt, PhD is a professor at the University of Montana where she also chairs the Native American Studies Department. Her doctorate is in clinical psychology, and she works in the area of Indigenous Public Health. Her background includes American Indian health, and she has served as a film producer for the short-film Dogwood directed and written by her daughter Maya Rose Dittloff.


Jason Begay is an Associate Professor at the University of Montana School of Journalism where he has taught for 15 years. He grew up on the Navajo Nation and has worked as a news reporter at newspapers across the country including the Oakland Tribune, the Oregonian, the New York Times and the Navajo Times.


Tara Weaselhead-Running Crane is an enrolled member of the Blackfeet Tribe and a dedicated Domestic Violence Prevention Specialist at All Nations Health Center. With over a decade of experience in community care work, Tara has a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by Indigenous communities. Her expertise spans a wide range of areas, including substance use and suicide prevention, land-based prevention, and healthy relationships. Tara is passionate about empowering individuals of all ages to lead healthier lives and foster strong, supportive relationships. As a fiercely protective mother, a nurturing auntie, and a dedicated advocate, Tara is committed to creating a safe and supportive community for all.


O’Maste-Win Foster is Blackfeet, Assiniboine, and Dakota Sioux, raised Lakota Sioux. A senior in the Media Arts and Business Schools at the University of Montana, they explore creativity and event hosting in sovereignty, resistance, culture, and justice. Deeply connected to the earth and community, they identify as non-binary and use pronouns she/they/her.
